What is the Presidio Tunnel Tops address?

Presidio Tunnel Tops’ main entrance is next to the Presidio Visitor Center (210 Lincoln Boulevard, San Francisco, CA 94129). The closest parking is in the lots near the Visitor Center. However, you can walk onto Presidio Tunnel Tops all around the site, including from Mason Street at Crissy Field.

What are the hours?

The Presidio is open daily, year-round. Presidio Tunnel Tops is an outdoor space that is open like the rest of the park. However, some experiences are open during specific hours. Presidio Visitor Center is open every day from 10 am to 5 pm. The Outpost is open 9:30 am to 6 pm from April to October and 9:30 am to 4:30 pm from November to March. The Field Station is open Wednesdays to Fridays from 11 am to 4 pm and weekends from 10 am to 5 pm. The Presidio Pop Up food and beverage vendors are open weekdays from 9 am to 5 pm and weekends from 9 am to 5:30 pm.

How much does Presidio Tunnel Tops cost? Do I need tickets?

Presidio Tunnel Tops is free and open to all. No tickets or reservations are needed.

Is there parking?

Large paid parking lots are located near the Presidio Visitor Center. Accessible parking spaces are available. Learn more about parking in the Presidio >>

Can I rent a bike in the Presidio?

Bay Wheels classic and electric bicycles are available to rent in the Presidio using the Lyft app. Classic and electric bicycles are also available to rent at Sports Basement. Walk your bikes, skateboards, and scooters while visiting Presidio Tunnel Tops. Bike racks are available near the Presidio Transit Center, Outpost, and Sports Basement entrances. Do not bring bikes into the Outpost play space.

Can I buy food at Presidio Tunnel Tops?

Presidio Pop Up food and beverage vendors offer delicious food representing the Bay Area's cultures and cuisines and are open at Presidio Tunnel Tops and near the Main Parade Lawn on weekdays from 9 am to 5 pm and weekends from 9 am to 5:30 pm. You can also bring a picnic to enjoy at many sites around Presidio Tunnel Tops, like the lawns, Presidio Steps, and picnic sites. Additionally, there are cafes and restaurants all around the Presidio (see a list of restaurants in the park).

Can I reserve a picnic site?

Yes, you can reserve a picnic site at Picnic Place, which has nine wheelchair accessible tables (16’ to 23’) and 10 grills that can be reserved on www.recreation.gov. Additionally, community picnic tables near Presidio Transit Center are available to everyone on a first-come, first-served, basis (not reservable, no grills). See our Picnic Sites page.

Can I throw a party at Presidio Tunnel Tops?

For large group gatherings and events, you can reserve lawn space at Presidio Tunnel Tops – either the East Meadow or Western Lawn. See the Rent an Event Space page.

Note: we have some limitations at Presidio Tunnel Tops to keep in mind:

  • Groups with more than 50 people need a special-use permit as well as other catering or amplified sound permits. If you plan to hire a third-party vendor to arrange a bespoke picnic or micro-event, you must obtain a permit.
  • Small shade tents with maximum size of 5’x5’ are allowed on the lawns; no staking into the ground. No umbrellas or pop-up structures are allowed. You may be asked to take down a tent by a staff member if winds create a potential safety hazard.
  • Bringing your own grill to Presidio Tunnel Tops is strictly prohibited; Picnic Place is the only place where cooking is permitted.
  • Do not bring balloons, piñatas, glitter, confetti to the park – they’re are harmful to wildlife and the park’s ecology.
  • Pack it in, Pack it out: leave no trace by removing your trash.
  • Parties or group gatherings are not allowed at the Outpost; if you’re looking for a good spot for a gathering, see Picnic Sites or Rent an Event Space pages.

Can I rent a space for a special event, like a wedding, party, or work event?

Yes, with the opening of Presidio Tunnel Tops we’re introducing two spectacular new lawn spaces for special events. There are also many other outdoor spaces and indoor spaces in beautiful historic venues elsewhere in the Presidio. The Presidio also offers catering, lodging, and other experiences to complement your park event. See our Venues page or Rent an Event Space page.

Where are the restrooms?

Large, gender-inclusive restroom facilities are located at the Presidio Transit Center and near the Outpost play space. There are also private family restrooms available at both locations.

Can I bring my dog?

Well behaved pets on leash are permitted in most outdoor areas of the Presidio. However, as with other parks in San Francisco, they're not permitted in playgrounds, including the Outpost play space at Presidio Tunnel Tops. Only service animals are allowed inside indoor facilities.

What's the weather like at Presidio Tunnel Tops?

Weather conditions can change quickly in the Presidio, and a sunny day can suddenly turn windy or foggy, so come prepared – wear layers. In a pinch, there are also sweatshirts available at the Presidio Visitor Center.

Is the water in the play feature at the Outpost play space safe to drink? Is the water recirculated?

The water used in the play feature at the Outpost is potable drinking water. However, the feature is not meant to be used as a drinking fountain. The water is not recirculated but captured for use in irrigating the plants and trees around the park.
